  8. that Princess Anne and her husband Captain Mark Phillips had
  9. decided to separate was no surprise. Though tattle about the
  10. foundering 15-year marriage was always denied, it grew more
  11. persistent as the couple spent less and less time together. Most
  12. of the gossip dwelt on outside romantic liaisons, but the
  13. marriage, which produced two children, may have simply been a
  14. dreary mismatch. ANNE WANTED HER FREEDOM, blared the Daily Mail,
  15. claiming that the princess was tired of years of pretense.
